4 Months In

Wow! I can't believe I just typed that title, 4 Months In. That’s correct, approximately 120 days ago, on August 2nd,  I arrived at FMC Lexington. I always say that it seems like a long time ago, but at the same time is does not. Time is weird like that. All I know is that once that clock strikes 12 in about 30 days, it will be 2023 and I will officially be home "this year."

Every time I call home or check an email my mother is telling me something funny about my Ness. She is growing up so fast. This week has been particularly entertaining. It started off with her receiving a pansexual flag from a classmate. She initially thought it meant that you liked people because of their personality and not because of their sex. After a little research on Google she realized that "like" was not quite what she thought it was and she likes boys like her older sisters. Therefore, the flag is under her bed. She did not want to be rude and return it to the gifter. She is nine y'all. What the heck?

Next, she had an incident with her teacher. The teacher called her out about something, essentially embarrassing her. Ness did not argue or say anything back. She just said she looked at her, but in her head she called her a fat B. LOL! She has not quite graduated to full words yet. Right now we are still using the initial letters of the word. Again, she is nine.

It is these calls and emails that really make me miss home. Yes, birthdays and holidays are obviously hard, but it is the small moments that I miss most. Truthfully speaking though, in the past I was so preoccupied with everything else in the world, school, career, business, etc. that I missed so many of them. Being away really makes you realize what you missed and what shifts I want to make going forward.
