Ain’t Nothing Funny

Some officers take their job way too seriously. They just look for a reason to be harsh, or to make the inmates’ time hard. On the other hand, there is a time to play and a time to be serious. One of the times to be serious is during count. Tonight, during the 9pm count, we had a little bit of a...situation. I arose from reading my first Wall Street Journal Newspaper, thanks to my mom, to be met by an unpleasant officer. I will admit that he was provoked by the ladies on my hall who were laughing and smiling because one of the officers had a water stain on the back of his pants. As the officers passed by, several ladies giggled and smiled. This pissed him off. After yelling, he then turned around to do a recount. When he initiated the recount, I knew it was his way of getting revenge for the giggling and smiling. As he walked down the hall, he stopped in front of one person and asked what her smile was for. She responded, "so we aren't allowed to smile?" This obviously pissed him off even more. Just when we thought the coast was clear, just when I returned to my room to finish reading my paper, he yelled, "Clear the hall. We are having a shake down." SMH! As I packed up my room and walked past the officers, he then said, "I love shake downs, I want to smile too."

Needless to say, this is not how I planned to spend my evening. Currently, I am in the TV room, creating this blog, because I have nowhere else to go. And from what inmate.com is reporting, my room, and all the rooms on my hall are turned upside down. I can only image what we will return to and what time. This really sucks because some of us, like myself, get up early for work. Cleaning and organizing my room was not on tonight's agenda. All because of a smile.
