Earning Freedom

This morning, I woke up early and finished reading the book Earning Freedom by Michael Santos. In the final chapters of the book Santos talked about his journey to success which began with defining what success meant to him. This encouraged me to think about what success means too. It also reminded me of a question that my reverends posed to me in the early days of my incarceration. I laid in the bed thinking about success and this is what I came up with…

Success means freedom; freedom in my mind and in my finances. It means the freedom to move about as I please, unrestricted from confines or restraint.

Success means authenticity. It means being true to who I am.

Success means health. I desire to be free from disease. To be unrestricted in my body. To be in my body and love the skin I am in. To embrace all of my physical being.

Success mean healthy relationships and community. I value genuine, real relationships. Intimate conversations that transform my thinking and touch my heart.

Success means the the fulfillment of purpose. I desire to leave my mark on the world. To do what it is that I came here to do.

Today, a new position posted. It was for a culinary event staff member. I quickly applied for the position. In my application I provided the website and social media links for Party of 5. The hiring manager quickly responded to my application stating that she was extremely impressed by our work and was going to be in touch with me soon. I sincerely hope that I get the position. I am open to doing something new that is in alignment with what I plan to do upon my release.
