Play Like a Kid Again

Today was a fun day. This long weekend has been a great kickoff to the beginning of a fun week. I guess as fun as a prison weekend could get. LOL! This weekend is also the first holiday weekend that I have been away from my family. However, I was able to do fun things with my family here. To start, I spent the first part of my day crocheting a cover for my water bottle. Yes, that is a thing. Because who wants to walk around with the pain and aggravation of an uninsulated water bottle? Not me! It took me forever to even get the base of the cover started and I ended up taking it apart three times. At this very moment it is not quite finished. I plan to resume the project tomorrow. I worked on it all the way until dinner. I actually had to stop a little early because today's meal was roast beef. And let me tell you…it is so good. But before we could even get there, the cafe rumors had spread that there would be a shortage of roast beef, so I headed down there early. ALLEGEDLY someone stole some of the roast beef. I told you food is a big deal around here.

After dinner, I then made my way outside for the highly anticipated game of musical chairs. Yes, yes, over one hundred ladies danced around chairs while being cheered on by their peers. And when I tell you it was hilarious…that is an understatement. If only I had a video camera. It looked like a scene out of Bad Girls Club, Prison Edition. LOL! While the game was happening, I looked around and saw so many smiling faces. Today, despite their circumstances, women were laughing, singing and having fun. I felt like I was back in elementary school at the annual Halloween festival. The feeling of enthusiasm and excitement had erased the sadness and pain, even if only temporarily.

Today was another reminder to take the time to play. To find joy in the little things. Musical chairs, along with poker (Texas Hold ‘em), and crocheting have been added to the list of things that I will be doing with my family when I get home. We are going to play and just have fun being kids again and I can't wait!
