Go Shorty…It’s Ya Birthday

Last year this time I was in Ruth's Chris receiving Chanel bags and Baccarat perfume. This year, my bunkie prepared a gourmet prison pizza and cheesecake. My locker was filled with some very heartfelt gifts. I was also serenaded at work by my friend from NC. She actually whistled two versions of the birthday song. Although I am not at home with my family on the outside. I am at home with my new family on the inside. And for that I am so grateful.

When I woke up this morning, I was greated by a poster at my door. There was a sketch of a Benz with the words ‘Happy Birthday Sharita’. The front license plate on the car said, "Boss Breeder." All of the girls on my floor had signed it, leaving really nice Happy Birthday messages. My bunkie cooked all day. In the morning she prepared a fruit flavored cheesecake. For dinner myself and four of my really good friends snuck off to have a private dinner that consisted of pizza bowls.

All day I received birthday wishes via email. I even had a video call with my family and a call with my best friend of over twenty five years. I had love coming from every angle. My 45th may not have been in the ideal place, but it was exactly where I was supposed to be.

I am grateful for another year around the sun. 45 and I am still alive. And I am not just alive, I am living. My best years are yet to come.
