Name On The Board & So Much More

Back when I was in elementary school, the last thing you wanted to see was your name on the board. Well, it is completely the opposite here. When you hear that your name is on the board of the secretary that usually means one thing: TRAVEL PLANS! This morning I was laying in bed when one of my coworkers came into my room to tell me that my name was on the board. I was so excited that I jumped up, got dressed and went downstairs. And as I thought, I was asked about how I was planning on getting from the prison to the halfway house. I had two choices; the bus, which takes almost two days, or my family could pick me up. Of course I chose option 2. I was then told that I needed to return the information regarding the person and vehicle that would be there on my release. Of course I furnished everything within hours. It is official folks; I am about to roll up out of here real soon!

Later in the day I was asked to report to the Psychology office. I had previously requested to have a one on one with one of the counselors here. I can tell my anxiety is increasing as I get closer to my release. In an effort to support myself, I decided to seek help from the professional. I 100% believe in therapy and plan to continue receiving it when I get out.

My day was even more joy filled because I got a visit from my mom and cousin. I can't even explain the excitement I felt seeing them, especially my mother. Oh, how I miss her. When I walked into the visitation room her eyes lit up and she had the biggest smile on her face. My girl. My day one, literally. We had a great visit. I told her a few prison stories and she caught me up on the happenings of home. My biggest takeaway from my visit was about time. When I looked at my mother and my cousin I could see that they were getting older. I think for so long I held a picture of them of the times when they were much younger. However, the truth is, like myself they are aging. It really made me realize how precious life is, how important it is to use your time wisely and to live life to the fullest. That is exactly what I plan to do; not starting when I get out, but today. Each day, each moment, is precious and I plan to live a full life.
