Not So Much MTV Cribs

My bunkie moved out today. Not because we were having issues, we got along very well. However, in here seniority trumps when it comes to the rooms. I have been lucky and have been staying in a two-man room which is the most sought after room in the building. There are some rooms that have 10, 12, and 16 people in them. So to be able to walk in the door and get into a two-man room was unheard of. But hey, God has been looking out for me since I got here. But the time has come and room changes are happening, so instead of letting administration move her, she found a room across the hall and moved into it. That way she could be with people that she knew and stay on the same floor. My first bunkie is gone. I have no idea who will move in and when I will be moving. As of right now, bottom bunks are rare, so they are not thinking about moving me at the moment.

Just to give you a little bit of detail…my room is approximately 7ft wide and 11ft long. It resembles a dorm room. There are no bars or cells here because again, I am at a camp. The walls are painted grey and the floors are a tan schoolhouse floor. Myself, as well as my bunkie, have a small locker. This locker has ALL of my possessions, clothes, food, toiletries, books, etc. Everything I own has to fit in the locker or under my bed. I keep my work clothes under my mattress. This is my way of pressing them out while reducing the amount of stuff that is in my locker. Oh I almost forgot, my locker also houses my toilet paper. See we are only given two rolls of toilet paper per week. That is actually more than enough for me, so I have extra on hand just in case.

Around here you throw nothing away. When I finish with a container that has coffee creamer in it, I rinse it out and use it to store stuff. Right now, the creamer jar holds all my pens, markers, and highlighters. And my empty oatmeal container keeps all of my pencils, stamps, and my copy card. It is amazing how resourceful and conservative you get when supplies are limited.

I also have a small window in my room and an old school wall heater. This heater is not just any heater. This heater will become my stove in about 30 days. When the temperature drops a little more and the heating system is turned on I will be able to cook up some meals. I have already been planning and making recipes so I know what buy when the commissary reopens next week. I plan to make some mean dishes like baked ziti, pizza, cheese balls, potato logs, and more. I can't express my excitement anymore because they around here starving your girl. Today, we got bologna sandwiches (which were actually good) for lunch and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for dinner because of issues in the kitchen. And I am not going to even lie. I tore them suckers up. They were nostalgic and took me back to my childhood when life was simple.
