Double Dutch Bus

One thing about not having cell phone, Google, Netflix, etc. is you will figure out how to entertain yourself. After receiving four new 16ft jump ropes, about a dozen of us headed outside to relive a few of our childhood memories. We jumped rope, TRIED to double dutch, listened to music, shared stories of the games we used to play as a kid, and simply laughed. It was two hours of fun and camaraderie. It’s moments like these, when your inner child gets to play, that you forget that you are in prison. We are going to continue to practice double dutch in preparation for the July 4th activities. I’m excited to learn so I can teach my family and do it when we have our celebrations back at home.

After I left the gym and returned to my room, I was greeted by a hallway full of officers doing room inspections. This was actually the second day of us having them. Yesterday we had a preliminary inspection where we were told what needed to correct in our rooms. Our space had only a couple of adjustments that needed to be made; other people on our floor/hall had a little more to do. Today sparked another issue because one of the fans located near my room was missing. In case you don't remember, we don’t have air conditioning in the building so we rely on the fans to cool us off. Apparently someone on the hall decided to take the common area fan into their room for their personal use and forgot to return it. The officers threatened to take all the fans until the missing one was returned. Luckily we found it and put it back. But, this was not before the officers dismantled some of the rooms on our floor. My room, of course, was still together; I just wanted to take a shower. Unfortunately, we were not only without hot water, but today we were temporarily without water at all so my shower was put on the back burner.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a typical day in the life of a federal prisoner.
