Happy Monday

It is a nice, warm spring day here in Kentucky. Last night, I stayed up until 2 am talking to my bunkie so I did not make my 6 am spin class. Instead, I did leg day with the young girls that I work out with on Tuesdays and Thursdays since I did not have to go in to work today.

Today is a special day for two reasons. First, it is my bunkie's son's birthday. He is her only son; her Papi as she calls him. Like me, my bunkie has four kids; one of which is a boy who holds a special place in her heart. The past couple of days have been a little challenging for her leading up to his birthday. I get it. Since being here I have missed two birthdays so far and will be missing a few more. The birthdays I am dreading missing the most are my granddaughter’s, which is coming up soon, and my youngest daughter’s. Although my bunkie doesn’t like to share a lot of her feelings, I was happy that she talked to me about how she has dealt with missing her kids' birthdays over the years. Thankfully, this should be the last one she misses because she is about to roll up out of here soon.

Second, my work wife received her final release date today. She was so excited. She only has 21 days left. I am also happy for her. I will miss seeing her at work and on my hall as I move through the building. There will be a huge hole in GED as she has been a steady figure for me and the other students. I will also miss our long, deep life and world changing talks. I think that is the part I am going to miss the most. She is my "Gayle." She says I am her "Oprah." The time has come to end this stage of her journey and for her to move to what God has for her next. I am excited to see what her future holds.

Release dates and leave days are always bittersweet. They are filled with joy, excitement, anxiety, and more. However, every time someone receives a date or leaves I know that is one day closer for me!

Since the weather is getting nicer I have found myself going outside more and walking. Today I walked two miles. As I looked at the track I thought about how that track was one of the first places I went when I got here. But there is a big difference in the person who walked the track 8 months ago and the person who is walking the track today on every level. However, the easiest to see physically is the fact that I can now walk 2 miles with no pain, no limp, or having to take pain meds at night. I am stronger and my health is much better. I am so grateful that my health and vitality has been restored. I am free of the limitations and bondage of my body. Thank you God!
