I Will Always Love You

Every Friday evening in the chapel there is a praise and worship celebration. On the first Friday of the month, the individuals who are leaving that month are celebrated. Well, today it was my turn. As a part of the celebration, I asked my "auntie" to sing, and boy did she come through. My "auntie" Ms. Pat is a former entertainer who has the voice of an angel. When I moved to my second room she would come over to my room in the evenings and sing a song to me. I love to hear her sing, so it was only fitting that she sing a goodbye song to me. My song of choice? I Will Always Love You. This song was fitting because I think of it as my dad and my song. He loved Whitney, in fact, the first concert I ever went to was Whitney Houston. This song is also appropriate because it was a dedication to my bunkie who I love with all of my heart. She has carried me through this dark time. She was there when my father passed, she was there when I cried, when I was growing, as I became all that I was supposed to be here and I will always love her for that and more.

Ms. Pat was accompanied by another talented young lady here who is a genius on the piano. The two together created a magic moment that left no dry eye in the room. I will never forget that moment.

Following the song, another friend of mine did a praise dance. I connected with her early in my bid; she always calls me her advocate. I love dance and she would always invite me to see her perform. I do not think I have ever missed one of her performances since I have been here. Seeing her move reminds me so much of my children who always entertained me when I came home from work. It is funny because now Vanessa has turned into quite the dancer too. I can't wait to get home to see her dance and entertain me the same way her big sisters have done for so many years.

God is good. I am so grateful for this experience and all of the people I met along the way. I’m closing one chapter. It’s time to open another.
